Loved my visit here, a really great way to spend an afternoon. The collection is beautifully curated, with a fantastic range of Australian art across different styles and periods. The space itself was calm (Sunday afternoon) and well laid out. Highly recommended and looking forward to visit again.

As a first time visitor to Melbourne and only a second time visitor to Australia, I would say this museum is a must for an experience. The descriptions and art by the First Nations artists were particularly powerful and moving, and very unique. As with the other NGV space, we also enjoyed the general flow and architecture of the space and felt it added to the experience.

Madeline at NGV Ian Potter was genuinely amazing. I asked about an exhibition and she went full gallery wizard mode, helping me out properly and even printing relevant information for me. She was warm, knowledgeable, patient, and made the whole visit feel genuinely special. I came in to look at art, got briefly haunted by several paintings, and left with useful information plus restored faith in front-of-house excellence. Protect Madeline. Give her a ceremonial lanyard of power.

Ian Potter Centre, Melbourne: The world’s-first art gallery dedicated to Australian art – through all genres, from classical to modern art. Housed in the impressive NGV Australia at Fed Square – first marvel at the dapper architecture then move inwards to appreciate the art pieces. Interspersed with appreciation of the stylish concrete interior design and the of the tall white spire atop The Melbourne Arts Centre. #eatstylishtravelstylish

It was a calm visit to this gallery which was spacious. Entrance is free except for some exhibits. Collection of art by australian artists (and some foreign ones) includes interesting aboriginal art. Worth a visit
